The Grassland curing and fire danger rating

The Grassland curing and fire danger rating project sought to provide more accurate grassland curing information to fire agencies using an automated methodology.

The project team developed an integrated model to make curing assessments based on combining ground based observations with satellite data which is collected, modelled and then disseminated through a web based platform.

The project also established an expanded ground observer network of more than 200 people which is supported by online training models and products for use by observers.

The uniform training has helped improve the quality of the data collected and the online nature of the product has been used to recruit further volunteer observers.
