Ready2Go Program

The Cockatoo Ready2Go Program aims to  increase the resilience of community members who are most at risk from extreme heat and other emergencies.

The program matches vulnerable community members to local volunteers who provide information, support and early relocation.

Connecting ‘locals with locals’ was vital to building trust, empathy and the relationships between volunteers and participants. The Cockatoo volunteers felt they had contributed their time to a purpose that made a real difference, while participants felt more connected to the community and supported in their choice to remain living independently.

The Ready2Go program has also launched a community training manual to help other townships and regions to implement their own local support systems.
