Early Vegetation Fire Detection System for Overhead Power-Line
Every year, hundreds of fires start on power lines and have the potential to significantly impact communities. Unlike other electrical faults, vegetation in contact with power lines can be difficult to detect due to the low amount of energy produced.
IND Technology , a spin-off from RMIT University have successfully developed an Early Vegetation Fire Detection System. The system is a world first that required years of research and design, as well as on site validation, conducted with the assistance of CFA.
The System provides a number of fire safety and public asset protection benefits:
- It provides 24/7 continuous powerline condition monitoring
- It provides real-time notification and condition reports of power asset
- And it has an early defect diagnostic system
So far, more than 10 Early Vegetation Fire Defence systems have been installed in Victoria.
