Get your entries in now! Fire Awareness Awards closing soon

Individuals, community groups and organisations still have time to enter the 2017 Fire Awareness Awards before the 17 September closing date. Entrants are encouraged to showcase their fire
awareness projects.

Forest Fire Management Victoria (FFMVic) Chief Fire Officer Stephanie Rotarangi said: ‘We know there are many Victorians who have put significant effort into protecting their communities from the threat of bushfires.

“The awards are open until 17 September and I’m encouraging Victorians to submit projects which illustrate how prevention, preparedness, education and recovery methods can be used to reduce the incidence and impact of fire,” Dr Rotarangi said.

“We know there are many Victorians doing great work within this space in their community and it’s important to recognise and applaud their contributions.

“It’s this type of effort that is making our communities safer and more resilient, so if you’re doing work within this space we would love to see your entry.”

The Awards recognise projects that demonstrate the innovative ways in which Victorians are taking a proactive approach to help improve their community’s fire awareness.

The big winner from 2016 was the Ready2Go Program, led by Echo Youth & Family Services Inc and Cardinia Shire Council, which won the best community project taking home the RACV Insurance Award for Excellence worth $10,000.

FFMVic, CFA and MFB are inviting all Victorians who have developed a fire awareness project over the past two years to enter.

Emergency Management Commissioner Craig Lapsley said: “Every year we have different people and groups from right across the state submit a range of fire awareness projects.

“It has been great to see a holistic approach to fire awareness reflected in the submissions so far.

“We look forward to seeing what the final 2017 award nominations deliver.”

The Fire Awareness Awards are presented by FFMVic, CFA and MFB and supported by RACV Insurance, ABC Radio Victoria and Emergency Management Victoria (EMV).

Entries for the 2017 Fire Awareness Awards close Sunday 17 September 2017. Recipients will be announced at a presentation evening on Monday 4 December 2017.
